Report

A good win today, it was vital after last week's awful display we bounced back and today we did. Beeston took the lead when a back pass bobbled 3 foot in the air and over the swinging boot of our keeper for a freak goal. We pushed on and scored as a corner wan't cleared and Rene fired home to equalise, however within two minutes we were behind, the ref seeing a push in the box that no-one else seemed to see and the penalty was put away. At this point Beeston were leading without causing any threat so it was important we tried to get back into it before they started playing. We missed a couple of chances and I was disappointed to go in at half-time behind however we were coasting and needed to start dictating the pace. The game was far too slow and it was a poor first half, we needed to up the tempo. That message was certainly taken on board. We found ourselves 4-2 up within the first fifteen minutes of the second half. Nice build up ended up in Hurrel having a strike on goal which the keeper saved well but Hurrell made no mistake with the rebound to equalise. The third was without doubt the goal of the season, I'd be surprised if there has been better anywhere - the ball came to Rossi all of 40 yards out as it dropped from the air he struck it on the volley with the outside of his right foot and it rocketed into the top corner, everyone applauded it even the Beeston supporters and players acknowledged it was a piece of brilliance. Only a few minutes later Hurrell whipped in a free-kick which was destined for the top corner but a Beeston player, not the keeper, extended his hand and tipped it brilliantly over the bar. It was spotted and the ref had no choice but to dismiss him and Seedy tucked the penalty away to make it 4-2 all within the first 15 mins of the second half. Not long after Jamo made it 5-2, another good move ending with Jamo finding space to slot past the keeper. Beeston started to play now and had a good spell despite the ten men and we gave away another penalty (I need to add up how many we've given away now, definitely double figures) which was excellently fired home to make it 5-3. With ten minutes to go Jamo sealed any doubt, finding space in the box to chest down and volley home to get a deserved second, he nearly had his hat-trick heading against the bar late on but it wasn't to be. A fine win today against one of our promotion rivals and especially pleasing how we reacted to last week and how we came out in the second half and dictated the tempo and blitzed Beeston in such a short space of time. Well done lads!
