During the closed season, we made the difficult decision to cut the squad down to 16 players. The season got off to a great start with an 8-4 win against Ilkley. Then, back down to earth with a bump losing 7-0! Following this we bounced back with three successive wins. As winter set in, games were thin on the ground, with only 1 in each in the months of November and December. A couple of drawn results were followed by a fantastic 6-2 victory against Guiseley Blues. The next game was probably one of the most exciting of the season, Amaranth in the cup. After trailing 2-0, we pulled it back to 2-2, forcing extra time. 3-2 down became 3-3 in the last minute, forcing a penalty shootout. Unfortunately, we lost on penalties, but the standard of football from both sides was fantastic with great commitment on a cold January morning from both teams. After another loss and draw our fortunes changed, with probably the best display of the season beating Guiseley Whites 6-1 away. An important result as we were both on the same number of points! We followed this with a 6-0 thumping of Pannal Sports. After that, the wobbles set in, with 1 draw and 2 defeats. With 2 games to go, we needed four points to secure 2nd place in the league. First game v Pannal Sports ended with a convincing 5-2 victory. The grand finale came at Knaresbrough, going into the game needing 1 point to secure 2nd place. Conceding a goal early on, put the pressure on, but we responded with 2 goals. Knaresborough battled back to 2-2, resulting in a tense final 20 minutes. With plenty of opportunities to win the game, we just couldn’t get past their goalie, but we got the point we needed to finish 2nd to Amaranth, who only lost one game all season, completing a fantastic season. All in all it was a great effort from all the squad, making me and Danny extremely proud.
