Report

On the hottest day of the year North East Leeds had nearly a full squad to pick from against local rivals Hunslet. With only Jack Roberts unavailable NEL lined up :-

                Tyler
Jordan  Harold  Alex   Joe
Prab  Cameron David  Wolfy
              Christian
                Jake

Subs,  Pav, Ewan, Ben & Tom

NEL had a strong line up against one of the best teams in the Garforth league containing at least 2 players who would grace any league team. Harold had been told to get tight to the Hunslet Balotelli look a like and David and Cameron were asked to give Hunslet captain Clinton no time on the ball. Christian was 1st to man up to Clinton and the 2 went at each other like two male bulls looking for dominance. Neither would give and inch and a highly competitive game was under way. Harold was producing another captains performance and keeping Mario quiet while Jordan was so impressive at left back the LUFC scout was soon writing his name in his little book. David and Cameron were working overtime trying to keep Clinton quiet but his class was shining through and he seemed to be pulling the strings in midfield. Prab was giving little bursts of his speed and class on the wing and Wolfy was playing the neat and tidy football at the other side we know he is capable of. Jordan brought the 1st save of the match after 20 mins when his dribble and long range shot brought a good save from the Hunslet keeper. Despite been under pressure Tyler had little to do and the couple of shots he had to save were easily dealt with. Joe and Alex both made important challenges when danger called. Despite been under pressure NEL forced a series of corners and should have done better from several goal mouth scrambles. Half time was called with the game goal less.
Tom replaced Tyler in goal and Pav replaced Wolfy. Ewan came on for David with the hope that his quality on the ball could produce the chances that had not been provided for Jake in the 1st half. The 2nd half was pretty much the same as the 1st with Harold playing like his life depended on him keeping a clean sheet. Tom bravely came and punched clear after 10 mins and received a split lip for his efforts. As the players tired in the heat more space was been found and Jake was starting to fight for every lost cause. Finally Ewan produced the 1 touch of class the game had been waiting for beating his man and producing a defence splitting pass for Christian to run onto. The keeper bravely dived at his feet but Christian battled for the ball which broke to the unmarked Jake, who with an unguarded goal smashed his shit onto the under side of the bar the ball bounced down and unfortunately for NEL bounced away when an opening goal looked a certainty. After that both teams huffed but neither could create a clear cut chance. Ben was introduced with 5 to go but the game was eventually stopped with neither side able to break the deadlock. In one of the best games of the season both teams had been physical without ever stepping over the mark and both teams can be proud of their efforts. In a game were nobody in a bright green shirt had a bad game Harold was MOM for his outstanding display
