Report

After 3 away defeats in a row NEL returned to their home pitch were their last outing saw them beat division champions Hunslet on a mild Sunday morning NEL put out their strongest available line out. With no keeper available Joe who missed the last match was asked to start in goal and Ben's MOM performance against Tingley meant he held his place. NEL lined up :-
              Joe
Pav   Alex   Harold   Wolfy
Ewan Cameron Ben  Prab
            Emilio
             Jake

Subs Tyler, Jack and Sam

NEL started the stronger of the 2 teams but unfortunately the Whinmoor defence seemed to be well organised and time after time pushed up to catch Jake offside. A couple were he appeared onside were also called and on the couple of occasions he did get through poor finishing let him down. Finally after 15 mins the perfect through ball  from Prab allowed Jake to beat the offside trap and finish well. NEL continued to dominate and Ewan and Pav went close before Jake scored his 2nd and 3rd to put NEL in3-0 after 25 minutes. All the subs were brought on but no more goals were added before half time.
NEL continued to dominate in the 2nd half but couldn't find the forth goal that would seal the game. As the game went on the Whinmoor left winger was looking increasingly dangerous as laziness stopped him tracking back but gave Whinmoor an extra man in attack. Jack was brought on with the orders to stay close. Ewan Jake and Prab could all have increased the lead before Ewan cut in from the right and headed towards the goal. With only the keeper to beat and all the goal to aim at he somehow hit the ball straight at the keeper but managed to tackle the ball back into the net to put NEL 4 up. Pav then went into goals to give Joe a run out and Sam and Tyler were brought back on. Tyler showed the skill we all know he has and beat 3 men in midfield before hitting his shot goal ward. The shot took a wicked deflection and looped up and over the keeper but as the shot was on target Tyler was credited with the goal. Jake was replaced by Wolfy and Ben who had been brought off 10 minutes earlier was sent on upfront in the hope of getting him his 1st ever goal. In true Ben style he beat a couple of men on two occasions before passing when shooting would have been the better option. With the game ticking away a shot that caught the breeze sailed over Pavs head to give them a much deserved consolation goal. Final score a moral boosting 5-1 win with Jake given MOM for another hat trick. Hopefully the bulk of the team will still be here next season and maybe with a couple of additions and a good start to the season the boys can kick on and finish in a place that reflects their ability and dedication
